SQUADRON PROJECTS AND EXERCISES

Lindbergh

Charles Lindbergh was the first individual to fly the Atlantic Ocean non-stop. The flight from New York to Paris in 1927 took expert navigational skills. This project will allow one to consider the flight path, and to determine his flight distance and average speed.

Shuttle

The thrust from the liquid rocket engines of the shuttle and the solid rocket boosters (SRB's) can be used to determine approximate accelerations and heights reached as the shuttle is lifted toward orbit. This exercise is an example.

Ares I

NASA's Constellation Project to send astronauts back to the moon and on to Mars will require two rockets - Ares I and Ares V. This project is scheduled to replace the current space transport system (STS) which includes the space shuttle. Linked is some information on the future of the U.S. space program.

Lewis and Clark

The Lewis and Clark expedition during 1804-1806 was an American epic. Following the purchase of the Louisiana Terretory from France, President Jefferson sent the Corps of Discovery west to explore the new addition to our country and beyond to the Pacific Ocean. Join the expedition and learn some history.
